Biocon secures 10-year Brazil deal for Pertuzumab with 100% PDP allocation
Biocon has partnered with Brazil’s Bahiafarma and Bionovis for the local manufacture and commercialisation of Pertuzumab under a 10-year government-backed programme, opening access to around 70% of the drug’s demand in Brazil’s public healthcare system.

Biocon secures 10-year Brazil deal for Pertuzumab with 100% PDP allocation
Biocon has secured a 10-year supply agreement for Pertuzumab in Brazil, strengthening its presence in the country’s biosimilars and complex biologics market while supporting efforts to expand access to an important breast cancer treatment.
The Bengaluru-based biopharmaceutical company announced the partnership on September 8 with Bahiafarma, a public pharmaceutical laboratory owned by the state of Bahia, and Bionovis, a Brazilian biotechnology company focused on complex biological medicines and biosimilars.
The agreement has been signed under Brazil’s Productive Development Partnership (PDP) programme, a government initiative designed to combine public healthcare demand with domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing and technology development.
Under the arrangement, the Biocon-Bahiafarma-Bionovis consortium has received 100% allocation for Pertuzumab under the 10-year PDP agreement, according to the company’s filing.
Biocon Pertuzumab agreement: What the Brazil deal means
Pertuzumab is a monoclonal antibody used as part of treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer. According to the companies, the medicine is currently not manufactured in Brazil and represents a significant cost for the country’s Unified Health System, known as SUS.
The PDP agreement gives the consortium access to a substantial portion of Brazil’s public-sector demand for the drug. The programme is estimated to cover approximately 70% of Pertuzumab demand in Brazil.
For Biocon, the agreement also creates a long-term commercial opportunity. The company is expected to receive milestone payments during the contract period, in addition to a share of revenues generated through the PDP programme.
Production is also expected to become increasingly localised. The agreement provides for a phased localisation of manufacturing in Brazil, with the transition taking place over the medium to long term.
The localisation component is significant because Brazil’s PDP framework is intended not only to secure medicines for the public healthcare system but also to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical capabilities.
Biocon expands healthcare partnership in Brazil
Biocon CEO and Managing Director Shreehas Tambe said Brazil remains an important market for the company and described the Pertuzumab agreement as a milestone in its efforts to build local capabilities.
The company said its partnership with Bahiafarma and Bionovis combines pharmaceutical research, manufacturing expertise and local capabilities to create a more sustainable supply pathway for Pertuzumab.
The agreement is also expected to support wider access to the cancer therapy while contributing to the development of Brazil’s domestic healthcare and pharmaceutical ecosystem.
Who are Bahiafarma and Bionovis?
Bahiafarma is a public pharmaceutical laboratory controlled by the government of the Brazilian state of Bahia. Its activities include pharmaceutical research, technology development and the production of medicines intended for Brazil’s public healthcare system.
Bionovis, meanwhile, is a Brazilian biotechnology company specialising in complex biological medicines and biosimilars. Its operations include technology transfer and the development of local manufacturing capabilities.
Their partnership with Biocon brings together an international biopharmaceutical company and Brazilian organisations with experience in public healthcare and domestic biological-drug production.
Biocon’s global business
Biocon is headquartered in Bengaluru and operates across several areas of the biopharmaceutical industry, including generics, biosimilars, research services and novel biologics.
The company says its products and services reach more than 120 countries through a network of manufacturing facilities, research centres and offices.
The Brazil agreement adds to Biocon’s international biosimilars and biologics business while giving the company a longer-term role in supplying a key cancer medicine to Brazil’s public healthcare market.
Biocon share price on September 8, 2026
Biocon shares opened 0.38% higher on September 8, according to the supplied market data.
The stock had declined around 8.1% over the previous month, while its one-year performance showed a gain of nearly 9%.
The Pertuzumab agreement therefore comes as Biocon continues to expand its international business while navigating movements in its domestic share price.
