4, 6, 4! Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Takes Mohammed Siraj Apart in Duleep Trophy Final – Watch

Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the spotlight on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy 2026 final, taking on experienced India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj in spectacular fashion at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Opening the innings with Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sooryavanshi looked confident from the outset as East Zone made a positive start against South Zone. The opening pair continued the momentum they had built during the knockout stages, helping East Zone settle into the contest early.

Sooryavanshi attacks Siraj

The 15-year-old reached the 20-run mark quickly before launching an aggressive assault against Siraj in the seventh over.

Sooryavanshi opened the over with a well-timed cut through the point region for four. Siraj responded with a fuller delivery, but the youngster was ready for it. He cleared his front leg and sent the ball soaring over long-off for a six.

Siraj changed his angle and came around the wicket, but the move failed to stop Sooryavanshi's charge. Another full delivery landed in the hitting zone, and the teenager once again lofted it towards long-off.

This time the shot fell short of the boundary, but the ball still raced away for four.

The sequence of 4, 6, 4 gave Sooryavanshi three boundaries in the over and underlined his fearless approach against one of India's established international pacers.

Siraj struggles for rhythm

Siraj, who had recently featured in both Tests against Sri Lanka, struggled to settle into his opening spell. After five overs, the fast bowler had conceded 41 runs without taking a wicket.

For Sooryavanshi, the assault added another eye-catching moment to his rapidly developing reputation. His ability to attack experienced bowlers with confidence has made him one of the most closely watched young batters in Indian cricket.

The Duleep Trophy final provided another major test for the teenage opener, and his aggressive start immediately gave East Zone momentum at the top of the innings.
