Uber, Rapido, Ola, Blinkit Down Across India: Users Report Major Service Disruptions

Several popular digital platforms, including Uber, Rapido, Ola and Blinkit, experienced service disruptions across India on Thursday evening, August 27, leaving users unable to book rides, check fares or place grocery orders.

The problems began during the evening, with users starting to report difficulties from around 5:40 pm. Complaints increased rapidly as more users faced problems accessing the affected apps.

According to outage-monitoring platform Downdetector, Rapido recorded a significant spike in complaints from multiple parts of India. Around 28% of reported issues in New Delhi were related to the service not working, while users in Karnataka and Telangana also reported disruptions.

Downdetector recorded approximately 1,700 Rapido complaints within an hour, highlighting the scale of the disruption.

Uber users report booking problems

The Uber outage was first reported at around 5:41 pm, with complaints increasing sharply through the evening. Reports reached a peak around 7 pm, as several users said they were unable to book rides through the app.

Some users also reported difficulties accessing normal app functions, creating inconvenience for commuters relying on the ride-hailing platform.

Ola services also affected

Users began reporting problems with Ola at around 6:15 pm. By approximately 7:30 pm, Downdetector had recorded more than 100 reports.

While some users were unable to book rides, others said that fare information was not appearing correctly on the platform.

Blinkit faces grocery-order disruption

Blinkit was also among the services affected during the same period. Users reported difficulties placing grocery and other quick-commerce orders through the platform.

The simultaneous disruptions across multiple widely used services led to a wave of complaints on social media, with users sharing screenshots and reporting difficulties accessing the platforms.

Was AWS behind the outage?

The disruptions were reported amid problems involving Amazon Web Services (AWS), a major cloud infrastructure provider used by numerous digital services.

However, the exact relationship between the reported AWS issues and each individual app outage was still being assessed. The full extent and precise cause of the disruptions remained unclear.

Users may continue to experience intermittent problems until the affected services and their supporting infrastructure are fully restored.
