IPL 2027 Auction to Be Held in Goa in December as BCCI Brings Event Back to India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed Goa as the venue for the IPL 2027 player auction, bringing the event back to India after three consecutive editions were staged overseas.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision on Wednesday, saying the auction will take place in Goa during December. The previous three auctions were conducted in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi, with Jeddah hosting the 2025 mega auction.

“After hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations,” Saikia told ANI, “we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December.”

IPL 2027 Auction Date and Format

While December has been confirmed as the month, the BCCI has not officially released the final auction date. Reports indicate that the event is likely to be held in the middle of December, with December 15 and 16 among the dates being considered. The auction is expected to be a smaller, one-day event because it is a mini-auction.

The auction will also mark the final mini-auction of the 2023-27 IPL cycle. The retention deadline for franchises has not yet been announced and is usually scheduled toward the end of November.

Teams Already Making Changes

Several franchises have already begun reshaping their squads and backroom staff ahead of IPL 2027.

Rishabh Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals, while Kuldeep Yadav has moved to Lucknow Super Giants in a high-profile player swap. Chennai Super Kings have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their new head coach.

Kolkata Knight Riders are also expected to appoint a new captain following Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement, while Mumbai Indians have added Zubin Bharucha as their director of performance.

IPL 2027 Season Window

The IPL had earlier announced a broad window of March 14 to May 30 for the 2027 season. However, BCCI officials have subsequently indicated that the tournament is expected to begin toward the end of March, with the final schedule still pending.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will enter the 2027 season as defending champions after winning consecutive IPL titles in 2025 and 2026.

The Goa auction will therefore be an important stage for franchises to fill gaps in their squads before the next season, while also marking the IPL auction’s return to India after three years abroad.
