Shubman Gill Hits Historic Double Century Against West Indies in 2nd ODI

Shubman Gill has completed a stunning 200-run milestone against West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, turning India's huge run chase into a historic individual performance.

Chasing 406 runs, Gill took control of the innings with an aggressive display of strokeplay. The India captain attacked both pace and spin and kept the scoreboard moving at a remarkable rate as India attempted to chase down one of the biggest targets in ODI cricket.

Gill had already entered the match in outstanding form after scoring 110 in the opening ODI of the series. He followed that performance with another commanding innings in Guwahati, underlining his importance at the top of India's batting order.

Gill Completes Landmark Double Century

Gill's double century came after he had earlier reached his 11th ODI hundred in just 62 balls, including five sixes and 10 fours. That century also made him the fastest Indian captain to score an ODI hundred, surpassing Rohit Sharma's previous mark.

The milestone against West Indies adds another major achievement to Gill's rapidly expanding ODI record. His consistency in the series has also given India a strong platform while chasing the enormous target set by the visitors.

West Indies had earlier produced a massive 405/7 in 50 overs, with John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scoring centuries. Campbell made 101, Hope 104 and Jangoo 114 to give the visitors a daunting total.

India therefore required 406 runs to win, but Gill's extraordinary innings has transformed the chase and placed the hosts in a commanding position.

With Gill reaching 200, the focus now shifts to whether India can complete the record chase and seal the three-match ODI series. India had won the opening match by eight wickets.
