India are set to host Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series in New Delhi ahead of the Men’s Blue’s trip to Japan for the 2026 Asian Games. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with Afghanistan designated as the hosts for the series.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board named its 15-member squad last month, with several of the country’s biggest T20 stars included. The squad features Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Naveen-ul-Haq, among others.

India announced their squad on September 1, with Shreyas Iyer named captain. The team also includes young batting prospect Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.

Bumrah's availability remains subject to fitness, while Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar are also fitness concerns.

Afghanistan will be looking to make history in the series as they search for their first-ever international victory over India.

India have faced Afghanistan nine times in men’s T20I cricket. The Indian team has recorded seven outright victories, while another win came after the memorable double Super Over contest in January 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The remaining match, played during the Asian Games in Hangzhou in October 2023, ended without a result after rain interrupted the contest.

India and Afghanistan first met in a T20I on May 1, 2010, in Gros Islet. Their most recent T20I encounter took place on June 20, 2024, in Bridgetown.
