Kovai Kings Crush Madurai Panthers by 84 Runs to Win TNPL Title

Vida Kovai Kings were crowned champions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League after producing a commanding all-round performance to defeat Madurai Panthers by 84 runs in the final at Chepauk on Friday.

C Andre Siddarth starred with the bat, smashing a composed 82 from 47 balls to help Kovai Kings post 182/7 in their 20 overs. Their bowlers then delivered a collective performance to dismiss Madurai Panthers for just 98 in 14.2 overs.

Andre Siddarth Leads Kovai Kings' Batting

Kovai Kings opted to bat first but endured an early setback, losing both openers S Radhakrishnan and Suresh Lokeshwar cheaply.

Both openers had shown early intent, with each hitting a six and a four. However, Lokeshwar was bowled by P Saravanan, while Radhakrishnan was caught in the deep off Shoaib Md Khan’s bowling.

The early wickets brought Andre Siddarth and Balasubramaniam Sachin together, and the pair completely changed the momentum of the innings.

They added 117 runs for the third wicket, with Andre taking the aggressive approach and finding boundaries regularly. One of the highlights of his innings was a six against Shoaib.

Sachin provided excellent support by rotating the strike and picking up quick singles. He also reached the milestone of 1,000 TNPL runs during his innings and impressed with a well-timed sweep against P Vignesh that raced to the square-leg boundary.

Panthers Fight Back Briefly

Madurai Panthers regained some control when spinner P Saravanan struck twice in quick succession.

He first removed Sachin before dismissing Kovai captain M Shahrukh Khan in the same over. RS Ambrish also departed soon after, leaving Kovai Kings in danger of losing their momentum.

However, Andre Siddarth remained composed and, with support from Madhava Prasad, guided Kovai beyond the 180-run mark.

Andre eventually finished with 82 from 47 deliveries as Kovai Kings reached 182/7.

Saravanan was the pick of the Madurai bowling attack, finishing with impressive figures of 4/30.

Madurai Panthers Collapse in Chase

Madurai Panthers' chase could hardly have started worse.

Opener Ram Kumar was dismissed off the very first delivery, caught behind by Suresh Lokeshwar from K Deeban Lingesh’s bowling.

The situation deteriorated in the following over when left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddharth bowled Siddharth Mahadevan.

NS Chaturved and V Hari Raghavendra attempted to rebuild the innings and initially slowed the collapse. However, Hari was eventually run out just as he appeared settled.

Chaturved later fell while attempting to accelerate the scoring rate, with Siddharth taking the catch in the deep.

Captain Balchander Anirudh fought on with a stubborn 24, but Madurai were unable to recover from their disastrous start.

Kovai Kings Complete Dominant Victory

Madurai Panthers were eventually bowled out for 98 in 14.2 overs, handing Kovai Kings a comprehensive 84-run victory and the TNPL championship.

M Shahrukh Khan and M Siddharth were the standout bowlers for the champions, taking three wickets apiece.

Shahrukh finished with 3/10, while Siddharth claimed 3/18, ensuring Madurai never came close to challenging Kovai's imposing total.

C Andre Siddarth’s match-winning 82, combined with the bowlers’ disciplined effort, secured a memorable TNPL final victory for Vida Kovai Kings.
